Howitt, William John

Biography: Son of John Howitt, Engineer-Commander (retired), and Hannah Runcie Howitt, Macduff; born Macduff, 1910 ; educated at Banff Academy. In 1933 he graduated M.A. with Honours in Mathematics and was later appointed to the staff of Portsoy Junior Secondary School, being commissioned in the Territorial Army about the same time. On the outbreak of war he was posted to the Gordon Highlanders and went to France with his unit. After Dunkirk he was put on training duties in this country, but early in 1945 he was sent to the front and killed in Germany in April of that year.
