Benzie, Walter George Swan

Biography: Son of the late Alexander Emslie Benzie and Agnes Emma Swan Benzie, Morkeu, Cults, Aberdeen; born Aberdeen, 12 July 1910 ; educated at Aberdeen Grammar School and Merchiston Castle. In 1933 he graduated B.Sc. He was commissioned in the Royal Tank Corps, and for a short time was seconded for duty with the Ministry of Supply, becoming Assistant Inspector (Tanks) Mechanization Inspection Department. Rejoining his regiment he was for eight months in Tobruk, was wounded there in 1940, and was "mentioned in dispatches" at the end of 1941. After he had had something like six tanks shot up, he was killed in action in Libya in June 1942.
