Wilson, Robert Weir

Regiment: 11th Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders

Biography: Son of James Wilson ; born Glasgow, 25 November 1881. From boyhood he had to fight against poverty and circumstance and win his way by his own unaided efforts. He became a pupil teacher at Row, Dumbartonshire, and in 1901 entered Aberdeen University where he graduated M.A. in 1905. He was a most successful teacher in Queen's Park Higher Grade School when war broke out. While a student Wilson was an ardent member of "U" Company in the old volunteer days, and this training proved valuable when he enlisted early in the war, joining the 14th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He proceeded to France in 1916, but was invalided home for a short time. Having been transferred to the 11th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders he returned to France in the following June and was reported wounded and missing, 31 July 1917.
