Image Requests

Image Requests

Our collection of digitised material is available to browse via Primo. This is regularly updated with newly digitised material being added.

You may freely use our images, provided you abide by the terms stated in the Creative Commons By Attribution 4.0 [CC by 4.0] licence (more detail is given further down this page). This includes using material in printed books and TV shows. Facsimile reproduction is not permitted without prior written permission.

If you wish to utilise our specialist digitisation service, please complete the form which can be found here.

We normally aim to complete requests within 20 days of quotation, however there may be times where this is not possible. Any delays will be communicated at the earliest opportunity.

Imaging for Research

Specialist Digitisation

A charge will apply for digitisation of:

  • · Material that has not been digitised already
  • · Large quantities of material (requests of this nature may be refused if they are too large)
  • · Material that requires specialist imaging techniques
  • · Material that cannot be handled safely in the research room To use this service, please click here to access our request form. Material will normally only be digitised if it is unique and not held elsewhere.

We have a regular programme of imaging items which are identified as priorities. Items which are imaged in full are routinely added to the digital repository and are licenced under the Creative Commons By Attribution Licence [CC By 4.0].

From March 2025, some of our images may be embedded with Content Credentials. Content Credentials, also known as C2PA, are a new open technology which details the author and editing history of an image. Our images with Content Credentials include reference to our CC By 4.0 licence.
