This Collection has been described as one of the finest in the world devoted to the writer Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832). It contains first editions of nearly all Scott's novels, poems, essays and other works published during his lifetime, as well as subsequent editions and works inspired by Scott's writings in diverse media, including music scores and comic strip adaptations. The Collection also includes biographies of Scott and other secondary, critical works, plus over 30 manuscripts and various objects. The Collection was purchased by the University from the collector Bernard C. Lloyd (1934-) in 2002.
