Computing Science at Aberdeen encompasses both the theory and the practice of computing with particular emphasis on developing your technical analysis, design and programming skills to launch your career.

Why Study Computing Science at Aberdeen?

  • We have close links with industry organisations who support our teaching through guest lectures and seminars and prizes (including for example Amazon, CGI and ScotlandIS). You will also have an opportunity to undertake a short-term placements as part your degree or spend a year on placement as part of the MSci Computing Science with Industrial Placement programme.
  • The Aberdeen Software Factory is a student-run software house that enables students gain experience working on larger software projects for external clients.
  • We are a friendly department, and you’ll meet lots of people who share your passion for computing through a variety of social and professional events regularly including programming and coding events and competitions.
  • The Aberdeen University Artificial Intelligence Society and the Aberdeen University Computing Society also provide a forum for students to share their interest and expertise in computing through workshops, guest talks, coding challenges and social events.
  • Our flexible degree options mean you can choose either a BSc Computer Science, BSc Data Science or MA Computing and our joint honours options allow you to combine computing with another subject such as music, mathematics or physics.
  • Some of the organisations that our graduates have gone to work for in recent years include Google, Citi Bank, Coca-Cola, Danske Bank, Disney Pixar, Morgan Stanley, Huawei, JPMorgan Chase, GE Digital and Allianz Insurance.
