Dr Pietrzak is an Erasmus exchange guest at Aberdeen/CEMS from the Jagiellonian University Kraków.

Dr Pietrzak is a specialist on 17-18th-century women's history and the history of aristocracy duringthe Enligthement at the Institute of Historical and Archival Studies at the Pedagogical University in Cracow. He is visiting us via an Erasmus staff exchange arrangement - the last one that is possible after Brexit. He has also worked on court ceremonial, the cultural history of travel writing in the early modern period, and a history of the family of John Sobieski, the Polish king who protected Vienna from Ottoman occupation in 1683. His more recent publications include Maria Clementina’s matchmakers for James Edward Francis Stuart and her journey to Italy in 1718- 1719, [w:] Il matrimonio di Giacomo III Stuart e Maria Clementina Sobieska, a cura di G. Dr Pietrzak is planning to present several papers to a student and staff audience during his stay in Aberden, between 12 and 19 February 2023: 

  • History of Polish-Scottish contacts in the early modern period
  • The Reformation in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (lecture for HI1523 on 
  • A panorama of the Commonwealth’s multi-religious history
  • Polish ceremonial and etiquette at the royal court from the 16th to the 18th century
