The UK Government conducted a review of North Sea Licensing Policy in the context of its wider aim of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Professor Kemp discussed with BEIS the modifications which could be made to the Licensing terms in the UKCS to procure reductions in emissions while continuing to incentivise economic production. Regulations to reduce emissions could be introduced when applications for licences were being considered and when field development and decommissioning plans were being assessed.
