Congratulations to MScEcon Accounting and Finance student, Rebekah Shanks for winning the IBE Student Essay Competition in Business Ethics 2020!
The Institute of Business Ethics or IBE is a non-profit professional organisation based in London, established in 1986 to promote high standards of business behaviour based on ethical values.
The IBE Student Essay Competition in Business Ethics celebrates the best writing by undergraduates and postgraduates.
The topic of Rebekah's winning essay was ‘Is the IESBA Code of Ethics sufficient to help solve ethical dilemmas facing the accounting profession?’.
Discussing how she applied for the competition Rebekah commented "When the IBE Student Essay Competition was advertised I did not consider putting myself forward as I was just about to begin working on my dissertation. However, Professor M. Azizul Islam emailed suggesting that one of my coursework essays for the Professional Accounting course had good ideas, with some work, to enter the competition.
Taking part in the competition while researching for the dissertation element of my masters degree was sometimes quite difficult to manage so when I received the news that I had won the postgraduate category for 2020 I was extremely happy and proud that I took part."
In addition to the recommendation for joining the competition, Professor Islam guided Rebekah and provided critical comments for improvement of her class-room assignment into the essay for the IBE competition.
