Ways to engage non-academic partners in knowledge exchange (KE)

There are a variety of ways to involve non-academic collaborators in your research, dissemination and knowledge exchange activities. Internal pump priming funding is available in the form of the Knowledge Exchange and Transfer Awards. There are also a number of internal and external initiatives that provide mechanisms for businesses - principally those in Scotland - to engage with academics in KE and commercial projects. The mechanisms range from targeting businesses in particular sectors in awareness and opportunity promotions and events to facilitating enquiries from businesses who are seeking KE and R&D partners at HEIs. There are a number of schemes that can enable businesses to work more closely with academics in order to commercialise their IP and develop the skills of postgraduate students eg Interface, Scottish Funding Council Innovation Voucher Schemes and similar funds through the various thematic KE programmes such as SICSA; Scotland Food and Drink; and Encompass.  Existing models of engagement with industry will be demonstrated during this briefing session.
