ScotDoc Conference in Accounting and Finance

ScotDoc Conference in Accounting and Finance
-

This is a past event

We are pleased to invite doctoral students and their supervisors to the annual Scottish Doctoral Colloquium (ScotDoc) in Accounting and Finance - a one-day conference, comprising two plenary sessions and parallel sessions of PhD presentations.

The Scottish Doctoral Colloquium in Accounting and Finance (ScotDoc) has been a core element of doctoral training in accounting and finance in Scotland for the past 19 years.  It is a great opportunity for our doctoral students to communicate their ideas and research to an environment that provides them with constructive feedback. Doctoral students are exposed to the research that their fellow students carry out and are able to engage in discussions on promoting their research.

Academic members of staff strongly encourage Doctoral students in the audience to critically think about and commented on other students' presentations. This provides them with further training to critically assess other work in their subject area and to express their views in a collegiate way. We hope that these skills help students to become confident discussants at conferences and prepare them to become reviewers for academic journals.

The event is typically attended by 80+ PhD students and 30-40 members of staff from institutions across Scotland. Usually, it takes place at a different university every year, enabling greater access to students. Students participating are usually at the end of their first year of their PhD or at a more advanced level.  It is worth noting that the quality of the event is well considered within the A&F community in Scotland to the extent that many universities require students to present parts of their doctoral research at this event and that this presentation will feed in the student’s evaluation with regard to his/her annual progress.

The event will run over the duration of 1 day and include a mix of student presentations with Q&A and two plenary sessions.

PhD students who would like to present their work must submit an abstract of no more than 250 words to scotdoc2019@abdn.ac.uk by 1st April, 2019.
