Scientists dish up healthy breakfast for Techfest

Scientists from the University of Aberdeen Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health will serve up a healthy breakfast on a classic red double-decker bus next week as part of Techfest 2016.

Professor Julian Mercer and Dr Alexandra Johnstone will be on hand on Tuesday, September 6, to  present to members of the public their recent research into diet and health, and the role breakfast plays in this.

Those who attend ‘Breakfast on the Bus’ will also be able to enjoy their own specially designed breakfast, prepared at the Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health.

Dr Alexandra Johnstone said: “Most people are aware that breakfast is described as the most important meal of the day, and we will discuss the evidence relating to time of eating, the choice of breakfast meal and nutrition quality. A common phrase in the UK is, ‘Breakfast like a King and dine like a Pauper’, and we will discuss some of the reasons why this is so.

“This event will be a fun way to find out more about the best way to start your day. We will be looking at some of the ingredients we included in the meal to help us feel full and the role of breakfast for a healthy body weight."

The event will take place on a specially re-designed classic red double-decker bus with dining car style seating, which will be parked up in the Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health carpark, just off Ashgrove Road West at the Foresterhill Health Campus.

Two sessions will run on Tuesday at 8.30am-9.30am and 9.45am-10.45am. Tickets for the event cost £5. Booking is essential as spaces are limited.
