University alumni return to offer careers advice to students

The University of Aberdeen Careers Service and the School of Biological Sciences hosted a joint event this week to help students with their future career prospects.

The event gave students the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of possible careers in their areas of study and provided up to date information on the skills and abilities potential employers look for.

Speakers at the event included Aberdeen alumni Andronikas Kafas, a Renewable Energy Specialist with Marine Scotland;  Alexandra Stuart, a  Ranger for Aberdeen City Council and Donya Davidson, Graduate Environmental Consultant at Enviro Centre.

Dr John Baird said: "The careers event was a wonderful opportunity for our students of all years to find out about the reality of graduate employment in a whole range of careers. As one of a series of careers evenings we hope to run this year, it provided up to date information, and incredibly useful advice to the students from those who were in their position two or three years ago."

Janice Montgomery, University Careers Service, added: “This is a great initiative which links students to employers, provides meaningful insight into the realities of different types of employment, and gives students an opportunity at a very early stage to understand and develop the kind of skills, attributes and experience required by employers.

“The Careers Service is delighted to be working with academics in the School of Biological Sciences to organise these evenings and provide regular input to Biological Science students through regular workshops and talks. It demonstrates a real commitment to the future employability of their students."
