University Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Ian Diamond, recognised scholarship in Learning and Teaching by presenting staff who have completed one or more courses within the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Learning and Teaching provision with their awards.
The award ceremony took place this week in the University’s Linklater Rooms.
The University’s Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Learning & Teaching and Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education are 60 credit, Master’s level programmes, taken over two academic years.
They are delivered by a multidisciplinary team consisting of staff from the educational development team within the Centre for Academic Development and academic staff from across the University.
For the first time this year a new, 30 credit elearning course has also been offered. The Programmes adopt a blended learning approach with supported workshops, structured online learning and an independent research project based on participants’ own teaching duties.
Dr Fran Wilkinson, Clinical Tutor, School of Medicine & Dentistry and Dr Martin Barker, Senior Teaching Fellow, School of Biological Sciences both delivered presentations about their research project findings at the ceremony.
Professor Sir Ian Diamond said: “The student experience is at the top of our agenda, and the suite of PG Cert Higher Education Learning and Teaching programmes are a central part of our support for this.”
Dr Darren Comber,Programme Co-ordinator, said: “These Programmes, which are benchmarked against the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching & Supporting Learning, provide staff with the opportunities to demonstrate a professional, scholarly approach to their teaching. Such an approach demonstrates commitment to the enhancement of the student learning experience at the University of Aberdeen.”
The PG Certificate in Higher Education Learning and Teaching has been offered for the past eleven years and is open to staff who are currently teaching at the University of Aberdeen. Successful completion of the PG Certificate also entitles staff to receive UK-wide recognition as Associates and Fellows of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
