The Kilted Chef heads for Kilgraston

Pupils at a Perthshire school cooked up a visit by a top Scots chef after scooping top place in a University of Aberdeen poster competition.

‘The Kilted Chef’- AKA Craig Wilson of Aberdeenshire’s Eat on the Green - today (June 13) visited Kilgraston School and cooked a three-course meal for pupils.

His cookery demonstration - the prize for the pupils’ winning design - was accompanied by a chat about nutritional information about his menu, provided by Laura Young and Dr Sue Bird from the University’s Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health.

Every year the University’s Natural History Centre runs a poster competition for secondary schools across Scotland.

This year the University’s Rowett Institute - which is celebrating its centenary - was involved in the contest which had a ‘Café Scotland’ theme and challenged pupils to devise a two-course healthy meal that responsibly sourced and reflected a season of the year.

Organiser Marie Fish, of the Natural History Centre, said: “The competition really captured pupils’ imagination and we had over 180 posters submitted from all over Scotland which were of a great quality.

“We were particularly impressed with the Kilgraston entries and the winning design demonstrated a lot of careful thought and creativity.”

Carole Clark, Head of Home Economics added: “"The competition sparked the pupils' imagination and it gave the Home Economics and Art departments a great chance to work together creatively."

The posters were judged by staff at the Rowett Institute with help from Andrew Booth of The Store in Aberdeenshire.
