AUSA celebrates award of bronze level for its services and operations

Aberdeen University Students’ Association (AUSA) is celebrating achieving a bronze level SUEI Award, following an announcement by the SUEI Advisory Panel on Tuesday (June 15).

SUEI (Students’ Union Evaluation Initiative) is a nationally recognised, externally assessed, quality assurance initiative looking at all aspects of an organisation’s services and operations. It is seen as the nationally recognised quality benchmark for Student Unions/Association’s in the UK. It is endorsed by NUS (National Union of Students) and recognised by the Scottish and UK Governments.

Mike Seed, AUSA General Manager, said: “Prior to Wednesday’s announcement there were only 11 other Student Union’s/Association’s in the UK who had achieved a SUEI award so we should be very proud and not underestimate our achievement.

AUSA would like to thank Dr Peter Murray and Jennifer Sewel from the University who sat on the SUEI Steering Group and offered their expertise and invaluable advice. Also to all staff and volunteers who have been involved in various capacities over the two year period for all their hard work and enthusiasm.”

AUSA  became involved in SUEI back in January 2008 and has been working hard since then, towards being ready for the final audit which was undertaken in March 2010.

Robin Parker, AUSA Student President, said: “Working towards SUEI accreditation has required a large time and resource commitment, and been challenging but very worthwhile.

“ It underlines our commitment to continuous improvement, embraces change to ensure we are member focussed, ensures we concentrate on outcomes for the benefit of our members and that we have a positive impact on their lives.”

A final detailed report will be forwarded to AUSA in the next week with recommendations for future action. There is also an opportunity to work towards achieving the silver and gold awards in the future, building further on AUSA’s current success.
