Virtual visitors expected to flock to first online Open Day

Prospective students from across the UK will visit the University of Aberdeen this weekend – without leaving the comfort of their own home.

The University will host its first Virtual Open Day on Sunday (October 25), providing virtual visitors the chance to log on and discover the range of courses, facilities and opportunities available to undergraduate students.

Hundreds of students have already registered for the unique online event which takes place at http://www.abdn.ac.uk/adifferentopenday/ from 1 – 4pm.

Campus tours, academic presentations and the chance to speak directly to current students and student recruitment staff at the University via a chartroom facility will all be available online.

Information on the University’s recent curriculum review which has modernised the structure, content, delivery and flexibility of its degrees for students enrolling in 2010 will be provided.

The University’s multi-million pound investment in facilities including the £57M Library and Special Collections Centre and the new Aberdeen Sports Village will also be showcased at the virtual event.

Rachel Sandison, Head of Student Recruitment and Admissions at the University of Aberdeen said: “The Virtual Open Day is one of the many ways we are providing prospective students with the chance to discover more about what the University of Aberdeen has to offer them.

“Aimed at undergraduate students beginning their studies in 2010, the event is designed to provide information on the full student experience offered at Aberdeen.

“From chatrooms to online tours, a wide range of technology has been employed to give those unable to physically visit the campus a real insight into the degree courses, facilities, societies and extra curricular activities available to them if they choose to study at the University.

“Prospective students will be able to interact on a one to one basis with both current students and student recruitment staff and receive immediate answers to any vital questions they have regarding student life at Aberdeen.

“There will also be the chance to learn more about the range of opportunities - such as Enhanced Study options - open to first year undergraduates in 2010 following our recent curriculum review.”
