Hundreds attend MA Applicant Day

Hundreds of people from all over the UK and overseas are visiting the University today (Wednesday March 4) for its annual Master of Arts (MA) Applicant Day.

Around 1200 students and parents, including visitors from across Europe are expected to arrive at the University's King's College campus.

They will have travelled from far and wide to find out about the broad range of MA courses available at the University – and to get a flavour of student life in the Granite City.

An activity-filled day of guided tours, workshops and subject presentations has been arranged for the visitors, as well as talks on a range of subjects including Student Funding, Careers, and Student Support and Accommodation.

Professor Trevor Salmon, Director of Teaching and Learning for the College of Arts and Social Sciences, said: "We are delighted by the high number of potential students and parents who have accepted our invitation to attend the MA Applicant Day, and we extend a warm welcome to all."

He said the high turn-out proved that the flexible nature of the MA degree at Aberdeen continued to be attractive to prospective students from all over the world.

"At Aberdeen our students have a wide and varied choice about what they study in their first two years and many end up graduating in subjects they hadn't previously considered, so having the chance to visit the University is a great chance to find out more about what we have to offer."

Students will visit the Elphinstone Hall where more than 30 information stands will be set up for all the MA departments. Academic staff will be on hand to answer any questions and to chat with students and their parents.

The University of Aberdeen is at the forefront in many areas of arts and social sciences and has experienced a steady increase in applications to the Master of Arts (MA) Programme in recent years.
