Staff and students from the School of Geosciences enjoyed celebrating the 10th anniversary of the MSc Geophysics programme this week.
The programme, which commenced in 2014, has trained 86 geophysicists from 27 countries around the world who have since taken roles across a range of geosciences and digital sectors including within industry, government, and academia.
The event, which was held on campus on Wednesday (November 27) allowed staff, students, and over 25 former MSc students and industry/academia collaborators to come together to look back on the past 10 years.
The celebrations included hybrid talks from staff remembering key moments of the past decade, alongside video testimonials of alumni and industry collaborators, all washed down with social drinks, a tapas buffet, and an Earth-themed birthday cake!
Dr Jean-Christophe Comte, former programme director who teaches on the course said: “It has been fantastic to see everyone come together as we celebrate a successful decade of the MSc Geophysics.
“Geophysics is an important area for recruitment of skilled professionals as part of the energy transition and adaptation to global changes, and our students fulfil that demand in becoming successful professional geophysicists.
Dr David Cornwell, incoming programme director added: “The programme provides training across the full range of geophysical applications to address today’s resource and environmental challenges, and I look forward to welcoming future students to the programme in the coming years.”
