A new book - essential reading for all those involved in the decommissioning of oil and gas industry infrastructure - is to be launched at the University of Aberdeen today [Wednesday 11 February].
Key contributors and the two editors of “Decommissioning Offshore Structures”, Professor Danny Gorman and Dr June Neilson of the University of Aberdeen, will be present at the launch - at 11am in the City of Aberdeen room, King’s Conference Centre in Old Aberdeen on Wednesday 11 February - to answer questions on the new book.
Co-ordinator of the University’s Oil and Gas Institute, Peter Meenan says:
“There is an increasing awareness of the complexity of the task over the next two decades for all those faced with the responsibility of decommissioning the infrastructure of the industry in a manner which meets the demands and aspirations of legal, political, economic environmental and engineering interest groups.
“The University of Aberdeen is well placed to pull together the multi-disciplinary strands of Law, Economics, Engineering, Geosciences and Environmental Management to develop a national strategy and core of expertise for finding the Best Practicable Environmental Option in each decommissioning case. This new book is the first attempt to bring together a coherent body of specialist knowledge in this area.”
In one volume, “Decommissioning Offshore Structures” brings together the best expertise in the field and should be prescribed reading for all those involved in the dismantling of the infrastructures of the oil industry over the next twenty years and beyond.
Reporters and photographers will be able to meet specific contributors to the book and discounted copies will be on sale at the event.
