Recruitment officers at the University of Aberdeen will take to the road this week for what is believed to be the first information roadshow for parents to be held by a Scottish University.
More than 5,000 parents and guardians of youngsters who have applied for a place at the University have been invited to attend Parent Information Evenings, which will be held at a variety of prestigious venues throughout Scotland over the next nine days.
Senior staff at the University will provide a wide range of information on the benefits of entering higher education, including the admissions and clearing processes, the key strengths of the University, new developments at the institution. On a more practical level, advice will also be offered on fees, student loans, cost of living and general support and advice on finance.
Lori Manders, Director of Student Recruitment Services, said the road shows were organised following an increased interest by parents in the education of their children.
“We have noticed in recent months that more and more parents are coming along to university open days with their children and that they are interested to hear about the practical aspects of coming to a university like Aberdeen, as well as the issues of academic excellence and employability, ” she said.
“The idea behind the roadshow is to provide as much information as possible for the parents, and their children. They will also have the opportunity to meet members of staff who can respond to their particular concerns, as well as a student who can give them an insight into life at Aberdeen University.”
The roadshow kicks off tomorrow (March 16) at Aberdeen University’s Elphinstone, continuing on Wednesday (March 17) at the Royal Museum and Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh; Inverness Town Hall (March 22); Trades Hall of Glasgow (March 24) and the Queen’s Hotel and Leisure Club, Perth (March 25).
Places are still available at the events and anyone wishing to attend should call Student Recruitment Services on (01224) 272090/272091, or by e-mail to srs@admin.abdn.ac.uk
