Some of the UK’s top international athletes will share their experiences on the field with members of the public at the University of Aberdeen tomorrow (April 24).
World and Commonwealth Games champion Liz McColgan and Olympic silver medallist Peter Elliott will team up with Stephan Franke, Chris Robison and Peter Thompson, newly-appointed Endurance Coach for the Scottish Athletics Federation, to discuss their approaches to training and competition.
The event - The Athlete’s Year: Preparing, Racing and Recovering - has been organised by Professor Ron Maughan, of the University of Aberdeen’s Department of Biomedical Sciences, who will give a scientific perspective to the discussion.
It will coincide with the three world-class road races at Balmoral tomorrow, which will be televised live on BBC Grandstand, and the Great Caledonian Run 99, which will be held at Balmoral on Sunday. It will be the first time this race has been held at Balmoral and some 2,400 people are expected to participate.
The Athlete’s Year will take place at the University’s Arts Lecture Theatre from 7-8.30pm and will be followed by a pasta party.
