Aberdeen nursery with international flavour celebrates 10 years

One of Aberdeen’s most international nurseries is gearing up for the most important date on its calendar – its tenth anniversary.

Children past and present are invited to take part in the birthday celebrations of the Rocking Horse Nursery at the University of Aberdeen on Saturday, June 12, at 10am to 4pm.

The Rocking Horse has been a home-from-home for some 400 children from a wide range of countries and cultures throughout the world since it first opened its doors in July 1989. At one point, children from some 19 different countries attended the nursery.

The fun day will take place at the Nursery on College Bounds, within the grounds of Crombie-Johnston Halls of Residence. Some of the events organised include a treasure hunt, juggling, fancy dress, a raffle, face painting, an art workshop and bouncy castle. There will also be an international food tasting stall.

Nursery manager Wilma Cumming said children who have previously attended the nursery are particularly welcome at the celebrations.

“We wanted to do something fun and exciting, which would involve all the children who have been at the nursery during the past 10 years. This is their day and we want to make it as memorable and special as possible.”

Fundraisers at the nursery are hoping to raise more than £1,000, which will go towards general nursery funds. Wilma has already raised £500 by taking part in a sponsored abseil down the Salvesen Tower in Aberdeen a few weeks ago.

The Rocking Horse provides facilities for around 60 pre-school children of students and staff at the University.
