The Ledingham Chalmers European Law Lecture

The lecture is jointly organised by the University of Aberdeen Law School and the Scottish law firm Ledingham Chalmers.

Professor Carol Harlow has been with the London School of Economics since 1976. She has also been Jean Monnet Professor at the European University Institute. A qualified Barrister, she was elected Queen’s Counsel honoris causa in 1996 and a Fellow of the British Academy in 1999.

Her publications include Law and Administration (1997) and Pressure Through Law (1992) (both with Richard Rawlings) and joint editor with P Craig of Lawmaking in the European Community (1998). She serves on the Editorial Committees of the Modern Law Review and the European Law Journal.

Ledingham Chalmers practices law from offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness, Baku, Istanbul and the Falkland Islands, and this is the fourth in the firm’s series of European Law Lectures.

Aberdeen University Law School is Scotland’s leading law school with almost 800 students from all over the world, and enjoys close links with the legal profession and academia throughout Europe.

Professor Paul Beaumont, Professor of European Union and Private International Law of the University of Aberdeen Law School said: “The Aberdeen Law School is delighted to welcome Professor Carol Harlow to deliver the fourth lecture in the series, and I am sure that it will maintain the very high standards of the first three speakers – the British Judge in the European Court of Justice, a Harvard Law Professor, and a Court of Session judge. We look forward to hearing Prof. Harlow’s views on the tensions between the desire for harmonisation of law in the European Union and the need felt by many to preserve distinctive legal systems and cultures.”

The lecture will take place on Friday, May 12th, at 6:30 pm in King’s College Conference Centre.

It will be followed by refreshments.

Admission is free, but guests are asked to RSVP to the Public Relations Office on (01224) 272014, or by e-mail on pubrel@abdn.ac.uk
