Businesses with fewer than 250 employees are being given the chance to gain a qualification in e-learning.
Prospect CPD, the University of Aberdeen’s continuing professional development enterprise launched earlier this year, is offering small to medium sized companies (SMEs) throughout Scotland the chance to get the best out of e-learning for their companies.
Prospect CPD is leading a project with funding from the European Social Fund to recruit SMEs into the e-learning revolution and a series of three modules on “how to become an online tutor” are being offered.
Catriona Osbeck, Prospect CPD, said: “As people begin to utilise the Internet to a greater extent, there has been a surge of interest in web-based training.
“This course is excellent for any type of business, as it can cater for both those with some experience of e-learning and those with none.
“It is becoming essential that companies consider e-learning for future training programmes, so it is important that businesses aim to have a trained member of staff available to support their colleagues.”
E-learning has began breaking down the barriers previously encountered by companies when implementing or considering some of the more traditional methods of training. Companies who may not normally be able to afford individuals the time to leave work for training will benefit from training now available from a desktop PC, while companies with part-time and shift workers will be able to include their whole workforce in future training programmes.
E-learning means companies are able to access training programmes wherever and whenever is most suitable.
Catriona Osbeck added: "We have a commitment to introduce and embed e-learning effectively in the workplace. We are offering companies the chance to stand up and direct the training to meet their needs. We are looking to gain a general understanding of current e-learning attitudes and how we can best meet the needs of potential e-learners."
This type of training is ideal for smaller businesses as they are trained at a time, place, and pace which fits in with their business. It could also be particularly beneficial to small training companies.
There are 50 free e-learning course places available, with a discounted rate thereafter.
