Leading voices to speak out on Scotland and the world at St Andrew’s Night debate
Aberdeen’s pioneering Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies will celebrate St Andrew’s Night with an evening of topical discussion and debate featuring a top-flight line-up of politicians and commentators.
The distinguished journalist Magnus Linklater will chair the event at the University’s King’s College Conference on November 30 where a panel of leading voices will take questions from the audience on Scotland’s place in the world.
Scottish Conservative Party Leader David McLetchie MSP and Alex Salmond MP, former SNP Leader will joined by Clarissa Dickson Wright, broadcaster and Aberdeen Rector, and the former editor of The Herald, Harry Reid.
The event, presented as part of the Across the Water series on Scotland and Ireland, starts at 6.45pm.
Meanwhile, David Trimble MP MLA, Northern Ireland’s First Minister, will give a public lecture on Northern Ireland: The Challenge of Leadership on February 26.

Professor Tom Devine, Director of the Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies, said that public events like these were central to the mission of the Institute.
He said: “Our primary focus is original research in the relevant fields and the advancement of knowledge. However, we also have the vital need for the dissemination of our work and ensuring it is open wide to public debate and discussion especially in these momentous times for both Scotland and Ireland.”
