Fertility expert Lord Winston to deliver University Christmas lecture

The distinguished medical scientist and doctor, Robert Winston, best known for his pioneering work and research in the field of fertility, will give a lecture at the University of Aberdeen’s Medical School this week.

Professor The Lord Winston, who fascinated television viewers with his award-winning BBC science programmes, including Child of our Time, The Human Body, and the Secret Life of Twins, will talk on the latest advancements in fertility treatment on Wednesday, December 5, at 4.30pm.

More than 300 schoolchildren from Aberdeen and the surrounding region are expected to attend the annual Christmas Lecture, organised by the University’s Medical Faculty, entitled New Ways to Have Children.

Dean of the Medical Faculty, Professor Stephen Logan, said he was delighted that Lord Winston had agreed to give the lecture.

“Lord Winston is obviously an extremely highly-respected scientist, who has done a great deal to further the understanding of fertility, giving hope to thousands of childless couples,” he said.

“Aberdeen has an impressive history of research in reproductive health, a history which stretches back over two centuries to the work of Alexander Gordon on puerperal infection in 1795. Today, the Medical School has an international reputation as a pioneering centre in obstetrics and reproductive medicine and healthcare and we are very proud to welcome Lord Winston to Aberdeen.”
