New Public Relations team for the University of Aberdeen

The University of Aberdeen has strengthened its Public Relations Office by appointing Angela Begg as Acting Director of Public Relations. In addition, two new Public Relations Officers have also joined the team.

Angela Begg (29), will bring expertise gathered from her experience in the PR/corporate communications field. She will provide the leadership and vision to the Public Relations Office, with overall responsibility for the media relations’ activities.

Angela joined the University in July 1999, initially as a Public Relations Officer, with responsibility for the University’s Newsletter and handling the media activities for the Faculty of Medicine & Medical Sciences and latterly as the main point of contact within the University for all media and press activities.

In addition, the team has been strengthened by the appointment of two full-time PR Officers. Ewan Mathieson and Emma Darling have joined the team having previously worked in Edinburgh. Ewan was the Media Officer with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Emma was most recently Marketing Executive for Edinburgh University Press/Polygon Publishing.

Ron Taylor, Director of External Relations, said: “The establishment of the new PR team will help strengthen the media work involved at the University. I believe that Angela has all the skills, motivation and determination it takes to establish this new team and in particular to enhance all of the media activities that will be undertaken by the University of Aberdeen.”

The new team will be responsible for the managing of all media activities for the University. Angela will be responsible for the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences, corporate media activities and will build on publicising the University internationally. Ewan will primarily be responsible for the Education; Science and Engineering; and Social Sciences and Law Faculties. Emma will be responsible for the media involvement

within the Arts and Divinity Faculty. In addition, the team will be responsible for the production of the Directory of Experts, the handling of the publishing of the University’s Newsletter, the updating and maintaining of the PR web pages, and the management of the photographic library.
