The University of Aberdeen Business School will host a public lecture today (Wednesday 20th May 2009) exploring the reasoning behind last year’s financial crisis.
Professor Geoffrey Wood from the University of London's Cass Business School, will discuss why the situation occurred, highlight potential solutions and project the outlook for the future.
Professor Wood is one of the renowned economists from the Institute of Economic Affairs who sent a letter to the Daily Telegraph last month offering a verdict on the financial crash of 2008 including causes and implications.
Professor Wood has served for many years as an Adviser at the Bank of England, and has advised among other organisations the New Zealand Government and the Bank of Finland.
He has also worked in the Federal Reserve System.
Currently he is on the board of Hansa Trust, Economic Adviser to PI Capital, and a member of the Investment Advisory Panel of Strathclyde Pension Authorities.
The session, which will be chaired by Professor Chris Gane, Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, will take place in the University's King's College Conference Centre beginning at 6pm.
Light refreshments will be available from 5.30pm and the lecture will be followed by a wine reception in the James MacKay Hall, with the event concluding at 8pm.
