Record number of pupils to attend revision school

A record number of North East secondary school pupils have enrolled in revision sessions to give them a helping hand with their studies.

Over 130 standard grade pupils have registered to take part in the Easter Revision School on April 7 and 8, hosted by the University of Aberdeen.

Designed to support exam preparation for Standard Grade English and Maths, this is the highest number of pupils ever to take part in the revision sessions which are now in their eighth year.

Taking place at the MacRobert Building on the University's King's College Campus, the sessions are organised by the institution's aim 4 unii scheme, which works to encourage wider access to higher education.

Pupils from St Machar, Kincorth, Northfield and Peterhead, will take part in a series of activities over the two day event, including revision workshop sessions and tips on study skills.

Teachers from city and shire schools will host the sessions with additional help provided by University students who are undertaking postgraduate degrees in education, student ambassadors for the University and senior school pupils.

Joe Whimster, aim 4 uni Project Officer, University of Aberdeen said: "The Easter Revision School is just one way in which the University of Aberdeen supports pupils making the transition from school to university.  Now in its eighth year, the event is proving increasingly popular as a revision activity for Standard Grade pupils, and this is reflected in the record enrollment numbers we have experienced this year.

"The aim of the event is to not only assist pupils in achieving better grades, but also to allow them an insight into what university life has to offer and encourage them to consider higher education as an option for their future."

The Easter Revision School will take place on Tuesday 7 April and Wednesday 8 April at the MacRobert Building from 9am – 3.15pm.
