Unicorn hunt for city children

Unicorn hunt for city children

Youngsters have been led on a unicorn hunt through the streets of Old Aberdeen.

Alison Parfitt, Historic Collections' Education and Access Officer, recently helped the Primary 3 children from Sunnybank School to hunt the mythical beast.

She said: "We explored the Snow Kirk and Powis Gates, tip-toed past the crown of a sleeping giant -otherwise known as King's College Chapel - and made a wish in the well to help them find the unicorn."

And they were successful in their hunt, which came to a close outside King's College Centre.

The event was part of a larger project being delivered by the Historic Collections team in partnership with the Aberdeen Reading Bus, which aims to raise the literacy levels of children and their parents.

The project, 'A Journey Through Old Aberdeen' aims to engage local schools with historic resources and the University of Aberdeen environment.

Work will be displayed in exhibitions on campus next year, and some of the activities will be showcased with the Reading Bus at the 2009 Word Festival (May 15-17).
