Budding amateur photographers are being encouraged to get their entries in for the inaugural ‘Deen in the Dark photo competition.
Friday 9 May is the deadline for submissions to the contest which has been launched by the University of Aberdeen to coincide with the first Night at the Museum event.
From night cityscapes and nocturnal creatures, to moonlit views and sensational sunsets, entrants are being asked to capture images of the granite city after dark for the competition, which is open to novice photographers of all ages.
Submissions are invited in the three age group categories: under 12's, 12-18 and over 18.
An array of prizes are on offer for those judged to be the winning competitors, including a digital camera, binoculars and a telescope.
Event Organiser Sarah Redmond from the University of Aberdeen says: "The 'Deen in the Dark competition aims to encourage members of the public to look at their city after the sun has set in a fun and creative way. We are inviting budding photographers of all ages to get their inspiring images in for the competition ahead of the closing date for entry on the 9 May."
All entries will be displayed at the Night at the Museum evening, where the winning images will be announced.
Inspired by the popular movie featuring Ben Stiller, the Night at the Museum event will see the University's Marischal and Zoology Museums open their doors to members of the public for one night only, to experience an array of spooky, intriguing and captivating activities.
Taking place as part of a Europe wide initiative to promote museums across the continent, the University is the only Scottish organisation taking part in the project.
A life size dinosaur, the ghost of an acclaimed anatomy professor and an Eygptian mummy are just some of the enthralling characters visitors will have the opportunity to meet. Whilst a host of interactive festivities including a torch-lit treasure hunt, glowstick lantern making, star gazing and behind the scenes tours will be available.
Entries for the 'Deen in the Dark photo competition should be delivered by person or post to Marischal Museum, Broad Street, Aberdeen, AB10 1YS by Friday 9 May. For further details visit www.abdn.ac.uk/nightatthemuseum.
