The University of Aberdeen’s Madrigal choir fly to Italy this week to perform in some of the most beautiful venues in the world.
The choir – which was formed in 2005 – leave the Granite City on Thursday, June 28 to give concerts in Forresteria Valedese in Venice and the Methodist Chruch in Bologna.
Specialising in English madrigals, Scottish folk songs and contemporary music, they have gained a reputation as Aberdeen's leading young singing sensations.
Dr Paul Mealor, Senior Lecturer in Music, will lead the choir alongside Alistair Macdonald, an associate teaching fellow at the University's Music School.
"This is a great opportunity for us to be ambassadors for Aberdeen and sing in some of the most fantastic venues anywhere in the world," said Dr Mealor. "I'm sure the choir will make us all proud!"
The University of Aberdeen Madrigal Choir was established in 2005 and is one of a number of ensembles active within the University. Members of the Madrigal Choir included students, University Staff and other musicians associated with the University.
The choir has performed in venues in and around Aberdeen including the early 16th Century Chapel of King's College, St Andrew's Cathedral, and St James' at Cruden Bay. It previously toured Belgium, performing in Ghent and Bruges, in the summer of 2005.
