Aberdeen rises to highest ever ranking in Complete University Guide league table

The University of Aberdeen has risen three places to its highest ever position in the Complete University Guide University League Tables.

Aberdeen moved up from 29th to 26th overall in the 2021 edition, released today (June 9).

Within subject-specific rankings, one of the standout successes is the Medicine programme which is ranked fourth in the UK after climbing seven places since 2020.

University of Aberdeen subjects ranked within the Top 5 in the UK:

· Accounting & Finance (4th in UK)
· Linguistics (5th in UK)
· Sports Science (2nd in UK)
· Medicine (4th in UK)

Four more University of Aberdeen subjects were ranked within the Top 10 in the UK:

· Civil Engineering (10th in UK)
· Education (9th in UK)
· Electrical & Electronic Engineering (8th in UK)
· Law (6th in UK)

Of the 10 metrics used to compile the rankings, Aberdeen has improved in five (Entry Standards, Student Satisfaction, Research Intensity, Student-Staff Ratio and Academic Services Spend) and remained the same in three others (Research Quality, Graduate Prospects and Facilities Spend).

Senior Vice-Principal, Professor Karl Leydecker, said: “There are some very positive signs for the University of Aberdeen in the latest Complete University Guide league tables.

“Obviously reaching our highest ever position is to be celebrated, but there are other successes at subject level, such as Medicine, Linguistics, Sports Science and Accounting & Finance, and when you dig deeper into the analysis there are other important improvements.

“These rankings play an important role in helping prospective students decide where they want to study and it is good to see that we are making positive strides in this area.”

Also released this week were the QS World Rankings in which the University consolidated its position as a top-30 UK institution.

Aberdeen was ranked as 28th in the UK and fourth in Scotland. The University also remains in the Top 200 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (168th in 2020).
