University celebrating 35 years of Clinical Pharmacology course

Last week the University of Aberdeen reached the 35th anniversary of its MSc in Clinical Pharmacology programme, and marked the occasion with a celebration symposium.

The event, which was held at the Institute of Medical Sciences, saw previous graduates of the course return to the University to share their stories on how the MSc helped them on their career paths. Graduates of the degree programme have since gone on to carve out successful careers in a variety of roles including Directors of Medicine, Vice Presidents of major companies and Global Heads in both industry and academia.

Professor Heather Wallace, who has been programme co-ordinator of the course for 31 years, commented: “Our MSc in Clinical Pharmacology has over 550 successful graduates and this event is bringing many of them back to Aberdeen to celebrate their success and to showcase what you can do and how far you can go with a Masters degree. The degree has evolved with time but still puts the safe use of medicines at the core of the programme.

“It is fantastic to have seen so many familiar faces at the symposium as it really was an opportunity to celebrate all the successes we have enjoyed over the years”.

The MSc programme includes molecular pharmacology and toxicology within the fields of disease, the drug discovery process and drug design and development. The programme enables students to access leading academic and industry experts and provide them with valuable networking opportunities.

The MSc is ideal for recent graduates, medics and scientists, who would like to improve their career prospects, fill skills gaps and further their hands-on research experience.
