Your Time at Aberdeen
Why did you choose to study at Aberdeen?
One of my family members was working in Aberdeen, so I had a chance to visit the city a couple of times before. As I was more acquainted with the place than any other city in the UK and the University offered a master's degree in the subject that I really wanted to pursue, I decided to do my postgraduate studies there.
Why did you choose your particular course?
I was exploring my options after completing my bachelor's degree and came across the course 'Artificial Intelligence' at the University of Aberdeen. AI is currently a leading field and certainly the way things will go in the future. It has always fascinated me seeing machines around us getting 'smarter' hence I felt that it would be interesting to learn in detail about it and be part of this cutting-edge technology.
What did you most enjoy about your time at Aberdeen? Did you have any particularly memorable student experiences?
I used to enjoy studying in the Sir Duncan Rice Library for hours as it was the perfect place to focus on course work. I also remember enjoying thoroughly the event organized by the Uni to celebrate being named Scottish University of the Year, one of the best experiences for me! And of course I can never forget sipping on a refreshing latte or hot chocolate from the cafe in my break time.
If talking to a group of prospective students, what advice would you give them to help them make the most of their time at the University of Aberdeen?
Studies are important but a little fun is important too! Put yourself out there and enrol in the activities that you enjoy. Gain as many experiences as possible, as that's what stays with us as a memory of our time at Uni.
If while at Aberdeen you benefited from a scholarship, what was the scholarship and what difference did it make to your time at Aberdeen?
I was grateful to have been awarded the scholarship 'Scotland welcomes India'. It really proved to be of help for funding my tuition fees and made a big difference to me financially.
Your Time After Aberdeen
What is your current job title?
Data Scientist at James Fisher Asset Information Services.
What is your current role?
My role mainly involves dealing with different kinds of data in order to find useful insights. As a data scientist, I am responsible for integrating data from various sources and analysing it to find the answers to a given business problem. It also includes presenting the findings to the relevant stakeholders.
Was your degree at Aberdeen essential for getting to where you are now? If so, in what way?
Yes, definitely. After graduating, I found myself equipped with all the skills needed to become a data scientist, both technical and non-technical. And I'm sure this degree in AI will continue to help me with even better job prospects in the future.
