10.30am – 11.30am: Word event with Scottish authors - James Robertson, and Robert Alan Jamieson. Last year saw the publication of not one, but two great Scottish novels, both epic in scope and their sense of place and history, one set in Edinburgh and one set in Shetland. They are And the Land Lay Still by James Robertson, and Da Happie Laand by Robert Alan Jamieson. James Robertson teaches Creative Writing at Napier University and is a former Writer-in-Residence to the Scottish Parliament, his previous novels include Joseph Knight, and The Testament of Gideon Mack (which was a Richard and Judy Book Club Choice). Robert Alan Jamieson teaches at Edinburgh University and is a poet as well as a novelist. His previous books include North Atlantic Drift and A Day at the Office. Both are wonderfully entertaining readers of their own work making this is an event not to be missed.
(Please note this event is open to the public and has a ticket charge but is free to Alumni attending the General Council meeting – please book your place through the link below)
11.30am - 12.30pm: Coffee & Cake. Following the events we would be delighted if you could join Robert, James and Glenn for coffee and cake in the Word Festival cafe. The Word Festival face Painter will also be on hand to create some of the children’s favourite magical characters.
