Join Aberdeen alum and Vice Chairman of BlackRock Mark McCombe as he shares the story of his international career in finance spanning more than 30 years across nine different countries and how his Aberdeen experience continues to shape his story.
As Vice Chairman, Mark McCombe is responsible for progressing key client relationships and strategic initiatives for BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, including key stakeholder engagement across the US and internationally.
Previously he was Chief Client Officer and Head of the US and Canada region, overseeing all global client segments with responsibility for driving growth in BlackRock’s client businesses.
Mark is also one of the Global Executive Sponsors for the Out and Allies network, the Ability Network and a founder of the LEAD program within BlackRock, helping grow and mentor top talent within the firm. Additionally, Mark serves as Chairman of the ToigoFoundation, whose mission is to foster the career advancement and increased leadership of underrepresented talent by creating mechanisms for greater inclusion from the classroom to the boardroom.
Before joining BlackRock, he served as Chief Executive Officer in Hong Kong for HSBC. Prior to that, he was based in London where he was Chief Executive of HSBC Global Asset Management.
Mark earned an honours degree in Politics and International Relations in 1987 from the University of Aberdeen and attended Wharton Business School, where he completed the Advanced Management Program. He was also recognized in the Queen's New Year Honours List in 2006 with an OBE.
