In 2019, Dr Sheila Young published ‘Prenuptial Rituals in Scotland: Blackening the Bride and Decorating the Hen’, based on her doctoral research into pre-wedding rituals for women in Northern Scotland. Pre-wedding rituals are surely some of the most distinctive features of Scottish cycle of life traditions, and her book examines the form, meaning and function of these customs as they are practised today, their local and regional variations, as well as how they have evolved and how they are communicated and perpetuated.
In this fun and fascinating online session, Dr Young will share her expertise in this area and discuss the rise in popularity of the hen party.
Joining information will be shared with those registered a couple of days prior to the event.
Online registrations for this event are now closed. If you would like to register to attend, please email alumni@abdn.ac.uk.
