We are delighted to welcome Professor Milette Gaifman of Yale University to Aberdeen, to present as part of Geddes-Harrower-Lectures. The opening lecture will take place on Wednesday 15 March and will include the opportunity to join online for those unable to attend in person.
Beginning at 6pm, this lecture will discuss 'How to Classify a Monument: Taxonomies and their Limits' and will delve into how classifications inform our understanding of artworks from Classical antiquity. Professor Gaifman will also explore the fundamental role the classificatory act has played in our viewing and understanding of Greek art and architecture in the modern era.
There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions following the lecture.
