Dickens and Christmas: The Enduring Appeal of 'A Christmas Carol'
-

This is a past event

As the festive season approaches, join Dr Dan Wall, Department of English, as he discusses how Charles Dickens became such an important part of our understanding of Christmas by looking more deeply at the enduring appeal of A Christmas Carol (1843). Dr Wall will consider its themes, its messages, and its characters, as well as some of the various adaptations of the story which have helped it to become embedded so deeply in the popular consciousness. As part of this talk, Dr Wall will also look at some of the traditions associated with Christmas during the Victorian era, how Dickens engaged with them and why they perhaps seem so resonant with some of us even today. We hope to see you online for this Christmas themed event on Wednesday 08 December at 5pm.
