'Women's' and 'Men's' Sports Categories: Are They Ethically Justified?
-

This is a past event

In many sports, the same athletic competition is run for two mutually exclusive categories, labelled 'women’s' and 'men’s'. But is this a justified way of arranging competitions? In this talk Dr Federico Luzzi will examine some of the moral issues arising from sex segregation in athletic competitions.

He’ll discuss the prominent controversy regarding the categorisation of hyperandrogenous athletes by current International Olympic Committee and World Athletics regulations, but also examine some less-well-known issues, for example that female athletes are banned from competing against males in football, and that the labelling of the categories as ‘women’s’ and ‘men’s’ is problematic.

Join us virtually on Thursday 11 November from 4pm-5.15pm (GMT) to hear more and take part in the discussion.

Please note that this live session will be recorded and shared online.

Online registrations have now closed. If you would like to attend this event please email us on alumni@abdn.ac.uk and we will register you.
