Putting People First

Putting People First

A cross sector introductory meeting to the "Putting People First" approach by NHS Grampian

The ‘Putting People First’ approach, which was endorsed by the full board of NHS Grampian at its public meeting on 13th June 2024, begins a systemic shift in how NHS Grampian welcomes, involves and invites all people to contribute to improving services and shaping the future of health and care in Grampian.

Shifting from people as passive recipients of care to creating equal partnerships with our communities where everyone can thrive

This introductory meeting brought together representatives from NHS Grampian, Aberdeen City Council, SHMU, third sector organisations, and the public with researchers from University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University.

Corri Black, Professor of Public Health, Aberdeen Centre for Health Data Science, welcomed everyone and introduced the session and the 3 presentations:

Luan Grugeon, Strategic Development Manager, NHS Grampian, outlined the Putting People First approach and potential collaborative funding opportunities with NHS Grampian Charity.

Katy Styles, Clinical Lead - Realistic Medicine NHS Grampian & NHS Orkney, Transformation Team, NHS Grampian, described a recent initiative Community Appointment Days – Migraine Management Programme.

Rosemary Hollick, Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist, Aberdeen Centre for Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Health (Epidemiology Group), presented her research on Patient journeys: lessons from multi-method musculoskeletal research programmes.

The presentations were followed by small group discussions about the challenges and benefits and generated a real energy in the room and a real appetite to collaborate and do things differently. We had sign up from participants interested in working together in learning, evaluation and research around (i) the overall putting people first approach, (ii) community appointment days/ community led health, and (iii) rapid cycles and how we hear and act on feedback.

Looking forward to next steps.
