Creating Accessible Survey Data Using R Shiny
Viktoria Eriksson is a 2nd year PhD student in Sociology. Her research focuses on gender and political attitudes in the context of national movements and constitutional debates. Viktoria is also a part-time project member of the Scottish Household Survey team, where she developed the interactive survey dissemination tool; the data explorer, which was shortlisted for the SGSSS Research Impact and Knowledge Exchange Award 2020.
Population data is being collected at a higher rate than ever before. With increased emphasis on evidence-based policy making and evaluation, it is important for academia, industry and governments alike to ensure that their data is publicly and easily accessible. This has been particularly evident during the current Covid-19 pandemic. Join me for a Lunch & Learn to hear about how I worked together with the Scottish Household Survey to create an interactive survey data dashboard – the data explorer – using R Shiny! There will also be a chance to use the data explorer for exploring Scotland in terms of SIMD, vulnerable groups, and much more along a range of topics such as housing, environment, and communities. No previous knowledge is required!
