Factors as diverse as technology, demographics, economics and patient expectations are driving changes in medicine and life sciences with significant implications for the research, diagnosis and treatment of modern health epidemics.
The next ONE Life Sciences Network meeting, in Aberdeen on 4 February 2020, will explore the fast-changing medical sciences and healthcare environment, including emerging challenges, new opportunities and new skills requirements in the workforce.
Our principal speaker Professor Siladitya Bhattacharya MD FRCOG, head of school of medicine, medical sciences and nutrition at the University of Aberdeen, will discuss how clinicians and researchers are responding to change.
Professor Bhattacharya’s clinical area of specialisation is reproductive health and his main research interests include reproductive epidemiology, evidence-based medicine and health services research. He has led several multicentre clinical trials and has served on national and international committees. He has extensive experience of teaching medical students and post graduate trainees.
We will then hear from Ronnie Palin, key sector manager – life and chemical sciences at Skills Development Scotland, who will address the different skills that will be required of our workforce in life sciences.
Life sciences is a key growth sector in north east Scotland. The Life Sciences board of Opportunity North East (ONE) - working with companies and partners including the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University and NHS Grampian - is driving activity and investment in the region to develop a life sciences cluster that is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in biologics, imaging and digital.
