HSRU staff attend the Society for Clinical Trials Annual Meeting

The Society, in its 36th year, is an international professional organization dedicated to the development and dissemination of knowledge about the best practice in design, conduct, analysis and reporting of clinical trials.

SCT is a unique group of clinical trialists from government, academia, industry and non-profit organizations, and our membership consists of clinicians, statisticians, behavioral scientists, computer scientists, clinical research associates and coordinators, data managers, information technology specialists, research nurses, pharmacologists, health economists, project managers, and ethicists.

Attendees from HSRU included our Unit Director, CHaRT Director, Senior Trial Manager, Senior Statistician and Professor in Health Research Shaun Treweek. Two HSRU posters were presented at the meeting.

Shaun gave a session on ‘Trial Forge: A Systematic Approach to Making Trials More Efficient’ while Senior Statistician Graeme MacLennan focused his session on 'Missing Data in Multi-item Patient Reported Outcome Measures: A Case Study Using the Oxford Knee Score.‘ Unit Director, Marion Campbell gave a session on ‘Cluster Randomized Trials and Stepped Wedge Designs’, ‘What makes a trial efficient’ and ‘EvaLuation of Interventions for informed Consent for randomIsed controlled Trials (ELICIT): developing a core outcome set’ and she was also on the Trial of the Year selection committee.

CHaRT Director, John Norrie, was elected Fellow of Society of Clinical Trials for major contributions to the science and practice of clinical trials; including cardiovascular drug trials and publicly funded, pragmatic trials of complex interventions; for his publications in both statistical and medical journals supporting the science of randomised trials; for his professional development teaching around the practice of clinical trials; and serving on many iDMC and TSC and funding panels, and for statistical reviewing of important clinical trials for journals; and for long service to the Society.
