The Data for Children Collaborative with UNICEF was officially launched in Scotland a couple of weeks ago and Dr. Magaly Aceves-Martins, research fellow from our unit, was part of this kick-off summit. During this meeting, three initial research lines were agreed and will examine how data can deliver new ways of tackling childhood obesity, address child poverty and improve child population estimates. This is a collaboration between UNICEF, The Scottish Government and the University of Edinburgh’s Data Driven Innovation Programme which seeks to improve outcomes for children locally, nationally and globally.  The Collaborative was initiated by – and is currently based at – The Data Lab headquarters in Edinburgh.
Each project is in support of the Convention of the Rights of the Child and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and pursues to improve children’s outcomes and well-being around the world. This collaboration is looking to empower and deliver relationships between academics, private sector and public sector (nationally and internationally) that use data science to improve outcomes for children.
