Accessible Housing

Student Accommodation welcomes and supports applications from those students who require accessible housing, or those with medical and support needs. We are able to consider your access requirements to place you in a room that is suitable for you. Where necessary and possible, rooms can be adapted to make more suitable for individual needs.

Students should contact the Student Accommodation Office to discuss their accommodation requirements.

Adam Smith House
The Adam Smith accessible property has an en-suite and a kitchen. The bedroom comes with a single bed. The property has power assisted door access, as does the adapted flat ensuring easy access View floor plans for Adam Smith House
Elphinstone Road Flats

Fyfe House

Typical adjustments

The University of Aberdeen has a range of accessible and adapted rooms available, including some fitted with specific equipment and fixtures. We work in partnership with Student Support to make reasonable adjustments to support individuals who require adapted accommodation to help them enjoy a fulfilling university experience. Accommodation is allocated based on student needs, and reasonable adaptations will be made where and when possible based on individual requirements.

When completing your application for accommodation, please think carefully about how your accommodation can help you manage your illness or disability. The following are examples of indicative adjustments and equipment which you may wish to consider alongside your application.

Applying for and allocation of an accessible room

You will be required to apply for accommodation and it would be helpful if you could indicate in the additional information at the end of the application that you require specific accommodation.

Although you do not have to do so, it will help us to help you if you mention your specific requirements in your application. Even though you may have told others in the University, we would strongly advise that you make us fully aware of your requirements for accommodation separately so that we can support you during your stay.

Once your application has been received, we may contact you to obtain further information regarding your requirements otherwise an offer of accommodation will be emailed to you in due course.

Viewing accessible rooms

Our rooms are occupied throughout the year and therefore we need to provide our current students with notice should you wish to view.

At this visit, we will discuss your specific requirements for accommodation. Please note that viewings will take place for those students who require specially adapted rooms rather than students who require an en-suite room only.
