Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery

The NHS Grampian department of Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery is a large, friendly multisite department that covers the full breath of Trauma and Orthopaedic Services. We are the only centre in Scotland to have all surgical and medical specialities required to look after multi injured trauma patients under one roof. The catchment area for our trauma services extends from roughly halfway between Dundee and Aberdeen to partway between Elgin and Inverness and includes the Orkney and Shetland Islands as well as the North Sea Oilfields. The population of our catchment area is approximately 530,000. Close working exists between the Orthopaedic Departments in Elgin.

We provide a tertiary referral service for spinal, pelvic, acetabula and rib fracture fixation for the North of Scotland. It has been nationally agreed that Aberdeen will be designated a major trauma centre.
