Her Majesty Queen Camilla
Her Majesty Queen Camilla was installed as Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen in a ceremony in the University's Elphinstone Hall in June 2013.
Her Majesty has a busy working life, supporting over 70 charities and organisations as their President or Patron and supports her husband, King Charles III, in his work.
Her Majesty's charity work is varied but several themes prevail: health and well-being, literacy, helping those in need, heritage and the arts, and animal welfare and, more recently, highlighting organisations which support victims of rape and sexual assault. Queen Camilla, like her husband, is also very committed to supporting local food producers and encouraging children to learn more about where food comes from, and to eat healthily.
Her Majesty is President of the National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) and for many years has promoted understanding and raised awareness of osteoporosis, having lost both her mother and grandmother to this condition. In January 2007 Her Majesty visited the University's new bone density scanner while opening the new Health Sciences Building at Foresterhill.
Her Majesty Queen Camilla is also President of Barnardo's, ShelterBox and Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres. With her particular focus on literacy, Her Majesty, in January 2011, stepped aboard the Reading Bus at King's College, during a visit to celebrate the success of this local project in promoting reading with children in Aberdeen City.
In April 2012, Her Majesty visited the University's School of Education to see new approaches to training teachers in greater awareness and understanding of the educational and social problems that can affect children's learning, and strategies to support and deal with such difficulties.
Her Majesty, as Chancellor, takes an active interest in the life and work of the University, and has already conferred a number of honorary degrees.
